Who is Kate?
Well, that's a good question. Who are any of us, anyway? But if that's too big a dilemma to start with, here's a short(ish) version of my story...
A coach and learning facilitator, yoga teacher, social entrepreneur and enthusiast for building a sustainable future, Kate Taylor Hewett champions positive inner and outer change in the people she works with. With 14 years experience helping people transform on personal, professional and organisational levels, she has worked across the corporate, social enterprise and health sectors and successfully set up and run several businesses.
Kate had a rich early life experience that involved living and schooling in the UK, Africa and the Middle East. She completed a BA (Hons) degree in modern languages before becoming a graduate trainee at the technology industry analyst firm Ovum, where she worked for five years as a Consultant. She then moved to the UK's largest Internet Service Provider at that time, and FTSE 100 Company (Freeserve), and worked as Product Manager, overseeing the launch of the first residential, unlimited dial-up Internet service. Yes, it's going back a bit now, to the days when downloading a film to your computer would take all night.
Having developed a steady yoga and meditation practice by this time, and finding she was called to explore the body-mind-heart connection further, she took a year off to study and practice intensively in India, Nepal and Crete. Soon after this her teacher suggested she cover some of her classes. Although not intending to become a yoga teacher, she soon realised that she loved working in a transformative way with people and never quite made it back to her corporate career. After five years teaching at London's top yoga centres she had to have surgery to remove part of her right foot, and given that teaching involves a lot of standing and walking barefoot on hard, wooden floors, this meant she could no longer teach full-time. This was initially both a shock and a disappointment, but she used this period to reflect and find a new direction, and chose to move into leadership development. From 2006, as the Training Manager for The Partnering Initiative, she helped pioneer a new kind of collaborative leadership that enabled cross-sectoral teams to deal with intransigent problems that no one organisation could tackle on their own. Three years later she set up and delivered the first two School for Social Entrepreneurs programmes in Devon, delivering innovative, action-based learning programmes to help build the growing social enterprise sector.
In 2010 Kate received some extraordinary mentoring, and realised that this was something she really wanted to do! So in 2011 she started up her own coaching business, which is now called The Mindset Coach. She's a Certified Analytic-Network Coach, an Affiliate Member of the European Coaching and Mentoring Council (EMCC) and holds a PGDip with Merit in Coaching & Mentoring from Sheffield Business School. She is Accredited in Belbin Team Roles and is a qualified and experienced Action Learning Set Facilitator.
In 2011 Kate partnered with Brainworks Neurotherapy, to integrate what she offered with the best techniques for transformation from western neuroscience. As well as teaching yoga, breathwork and meditation on group retreats, Kate coaches clients undergoing neurofeedback/biofeedback and helps develop customised yoga and meditation programmes for body-mind optimisation.
When she's not travelling Kate lives in the woods on the edge of Dartmoor, Devon, with her husband Ben. She loves spending time in her meditation studio, foraging, walking her dogs, and checking up on the hive of honeybees in her garden.
